Stowmarket v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) on Sat 19 Aug 2017 at 12:30
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
Despite a valiant effort, EAGCC 1st XI came up short against Stowmarket to lose by 7 wickets with 5 overs to spare.
The Green were invited to bat first on a slightly damp surface and faced a bowling attack determined to minimise scoring opportunities. Only Porky was really able to bat with any freedom, but once he was out for a top score of 47 and the skipper followed too soon after, our hopes of topping 200 went with them. Some late innings hitting gave the bowlers something to aim for, although the total of 168-7 looked at least 20 runs short.
Having bowled 15 overs taking 2-38, D Watling then batted through the home team's innings for an unbeaten 97 to steer them to victory. Nunners grabbed 3 wickets, all to well-taken catches, but Stowmarket were always ahead of the asking rate. Nevertheless, judging by the noise from the outfield, the Greenies maintained a positive approach and never stopped trying; we were just beaten by a better team on the day, but the fight for promotion and the league title goes on.
