Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost By 1 Run

Match report After a day of heavy rain showers it was something of a surprise that this match went ahead at all, however it did and in an exciting finish in the gathering gloom the Green went down by 1 run, in a match reduced to 18 over’s a side.

Braintree batted first and made steady progress to 47 in the 9th over when Nathan took two wickets in consecutive deliveries. Braintree opener Chalk continued to bat well for his 38 before Nathan also dismissed him, and Long scored 19 valuable late runs until he was bowled by Matt in the penultimate over. Braintree closed on 93-5.

The Green reply got off to a terrible start when Leighton was run out without facing a ball, then some good bowling saw the Green slip to 24-4. Richard and Jake staged something of a recovery before Jake was out with the score on 44. Peter then joined Richard and they put on 34 for the 6th wicket, including a lovely 6 from Richard which flew over the head of Long on. Sensible batting from Peter meant that the Green needed 4 off the last over in what was now, very dark conditions. Unfortunately Elliott was out, caught behind off the first ball, two runs were scored off the next 4 balls before Peter was bowled off the last ball of the match to leave the Green 1 run short.
