Match report While this match will be remembered for some excellent batting by Elliot Cryne and Matt Parker, it was in fact a triumph for the whole U14 team. The entire squad was in attendance on a wet and gloomy evening at Mistley CC to celebrate a spectacular team effort and to witness some impressive cricket.

Elliot Cryne batted sensibly, along with Matt Parker to put on a partnership worth 101 runs. The umpires reduced the number of overs to 18, so this was an exceptional achievement for the two young batsmen. Elliot hit the ball hard and straight, including one shot that missed clearing the boundary by millimetres. Matt edged and cut to great effect.

This batting display was backed up with a solid bowling and fielding performance. Fergus Nightingale's sharp thinking dismissed the No.2 batsman after he wandered out of his crease following an unsuccessful LBW decision. He also ran out the No.9 following a great piece of fielding from Dominic Blanchard.

Charlie and Ollie Lovejoy both bowled full and straight, bowling two, top-order batsmen out cheaply. Joseph Shone, in only his second appearance, bowled out two more. An accurate throw from Dominic Blanchard saw an exciting run-out, while Dominic bowled effectively to limit the scoring and take one wicket. Matt Wadling and Toby Edwards both showed promise in their two overs, with Toby finishing the game by hurling a full toss to clatter the top of the stumps.

Next steps: batsmen to keep heads down and eyes fixed on ball when playing shots, bowlers to bowl straighter, conceding fewer wides.

Overall this was a fantastic team effort, with everyone playing an important part. Well done.
