Match report Outstanding Opener from The Green Ladies!

A beautiful evening away at Sudbury turned out to be the setting for the outstanding opening game of the season for The Green Ladies. After losing the toss, The Green Ladies were put into bat.

Openers Diane ‘Dimps’ Pasfield and Rachel Watson weathered the new ball well, taking advantage of singles where they were offered. Dimps was eventually caught aiming to push up the pace which brought Libby Knifton-Mead to the crease. And so the pace was duly upped – Knifton-Mead hitting quick fours and even a six before being bowled for 17. The next batter, Minal Patel, batted sensibly and ran cheekily to ensure both her and opener Watson retired on 25. Debutant Katie Suckling (apple) saw off some initial nerves to hit a solid 17, including 2 fours. Cameos at the end from Hannah Finbow-Jeffery (16) and Debbie Green (4) ensured The Green ended the innings on a very strong 147.

So to the bowling and what a display! Hannah Finbow-Jeffery set the intention early on, taking a wicket first ball and from then on, it rained wickets! Suckling impressed with the ball too, taking 3 for 18, a brace for Patel and one each for Watson, Max Harris and Captain Cutter. Superb fielding from Claire Bull also deserves a mention, suffering numerous bruises in the process! Sudbury lasted the innings, but only just, relying on their opener to come back from retirement to see them home to a total of 71.

An outstanding start by The Green Ladies showing strength and depth in batting and bowling and great commitment in the field. Let’s keep it up for the first home game next week. GREEN ARMY!
