Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) v Hadleigh II on Sat 28 May 2022 at 1pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report Despite posting a challenging total of 244-6, the Green's winning run came to a shuddering halt with a 7 wicket home defeat against a strong Hadleigh side.
Once again Keith Hammond was the mainstay of our innings, recording a run-a-ball 120, including 5 majestic maximums, before he finally fell late in the innings in pursuit of quick runs. Early support came from Deepak Rajpal who was a little more subdued than normal but still contributed 37 to the opening partnership of 76. From that encouraging position in the 17th over Hadleigh squeezed the life out of our innings in the middle overs. Ollie Mewis came and went quickly and while Ollie Stovell stayed around a while longer, he won't argue that it was a stodgy innings of 18, far from his normal fluency. Skipper Steve Nunn had no such trouble, smashing 37 from just 26 balls as the innings was re-energised and Jens Wair was similarly pugnacious in closing the innings with an unbeaten 15 from just a handful of deliveries. At the innings break a target of 245 looked a real challenge for our high-flying visitors.
The Hadleigh reply started remarkably like our own innings, with the opening partnership making 77, despite a challenging but economical spell coming up the hill from Jonathan Purser. Keith eventually replaced JP and claimed the first of his three scalps. Nevertheless, Hadleigh manged to keep the scorecard ticking over and the asking rate never got beyond 7 an over, as unfortunately we offered up too many boundary balls, offers that were all too readily accepted. Keith's third wicket came from a splendid catch from Ollie S, although that was a couple of overs after he'd dropped a dolly off the Hadleigh skipper, who eventually led his team home with an unbeaten half century. Given that Ollie also took a bit of tap during a rare opportunity to turn over his arm, this really wasn't one of his better days. Hadleigh accelerated as the target came into view and ultimately won with 17 balls to spare. Well played Hadleigh, we will re-gather our energies and go again at East Bergholt next week.
