Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 100 Runs

Match report Even when he's not here, he still delivers the goods:

This was a day for the team leaders to show their worth as captain Ollie Stovell and his vice Jens Wair starred with bat and ball respectively. With splendid support from the rest of the team the Green eventually won by 100 runs to complete a clean sweep for the senior sides this weekend.

Of course Ollie’s innings would have to happen while I’m on holiday, thereby missing his 130. You won’t be surprised to know that whilst I am obviously delighted at my son’s efforts, I also called him a rotten ****** for doing it when I wasn’t there to see it! No doubt it was a cracking knock full of sweetly timed drives, 22 of which went to the boundary with one other clearing the ropes, most of which came behind square on the leg side with the bowlers offering a number of short deliveries. There was support all down the card with opening partner Joe Young hitting 35 and Connor Murphy enjoying some time in the middle with the skipper - he made a confidence-enhancing 20 including a couple of excellent 4s, as he was bowled looking to accelerate the scoring in the last 10. All told, the Green posted as imposing 254-7.

It wasn’t quite the case that Jens took over at this point as first T-Roy Collins and Ajula Gunasekera took a wicket apiece. Matt Murray as first change was economical and offered very little to the batsmen who refused to give in to the loopy balls that were bowled (deliberately it must be said), but for once wicketless. That’s when Jens came to the fore and bagged himself a five-for (5-36), deceiving many a batsman with his loopy flight and excellent control throughout his spell as he looked threatening with most balls. As if that wasn’t enough, Jens also claimed a run out, while the other Boxted wicket to fall went to young Bevin Guthrie in a short but sweet spell. The innings closed on 154-9, the only blemish being a last wicket partnership that denied us maximum points, but on a really good day for the Green, it would be somewhat churlish to complain about that.
