Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U15 v Mistley on Wed 08 May 2013 at 18.00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report What a match, all those who were present from both teams will never forget it.

EAG lost the toss & bowled first, Mistley were soon 78-0 after 12 overs.
A couple of missed run outs & dropped catches was not helping the situation, however the team never gave in & Mistley finished with 125-5, Alex Johnson taking 2 for 8 off 3 overs.
Richard Nolan bravely offered to take the gloves at the start of the innings & has bruises all over to prove it, well done Richard.10 of the team bowled.

We believed 126 was gettable as long one of the main batsmen stayed in for a long innings.
Not a good start losing Charlie Shepherd in the first over & in comparison we were 61-5 after 12 overs. Mistley were well on top but George Fenning joined Ollie Lovejoy in fading light with most spectators expecting only one result.

However no one told Ollie & George who in the next 7 overs methodically picked off the bad balls & just to rub salt into an ever growing Mistley wound, in almost total darkness Ollie smashed the last ball of the 19th over for 6 back over the rapid opening bowlers head to bring up a memorable win. It was very dark.

Well done George for playing a perfect innings in the circumstances.
What can be said of Ollie's innings? If only Mistley could have scored a few more I think we would have seen a brilliant 100.

A quick aside to highlight commitment: Ollie decided that as the light was worsening & Mistley didn't appear in any hurry to bowl their overs he would have to perform duties other than just batting to keep the match moving on. He carried out some umpiring work by rebuilding the stumps when they were broken by attempted run outs, at both ends.
An even more amazing feat occurred when having hit one of his many boundaries he could not wait for the Mistley fieldsman to retrieve the ball from a bush. He sprinted from the middle to the boundary, pushed others out of way, dived head first into a thorn bush, found the ball & sprinted back to the bowler with it. Would you have wanted to bowl that next ball to 'the beast'?

We have many things to improve on, but our first game bought a win, well done EAG U15's.
