Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 76 runs

Match report The seconds beat Copford by 76 runs in this Division four encounter between the bottom two teams in the league.

The foundation for the victory was a very impressive batting performance that totalled 242-8. Chris Markham-Lee and Neil Brinded got the inning off th a flying start putting on 86 for the first wicket, Chris hitting 3 sixes on his way to 50, Neil also batted well making 32. Four wickets then fell for 17 before Kevin Smith and Nick Murray came together to put on 73 for the fifth wicket. Kevin fell for a typically aggressive 44 before Nick marshalled the lower order through to the close with an excellent 51 not out, Jack Smith and Matt Norris giving support with 20 and 13 respectively.

Chasing 243 Copford made a steady start putting on 58 for the first wicket but good bowling ensured they were always behind the asking rate. Nick eventually made the initial breakthrough, thereafter wickets fell at regular intervals until Bullen and Geddis put on 46 for the 8th wicket, although the outcome was not really in doubt by then. Nick took 3 wickets, Carl and Matt 2 each and Alistair and Jack one each.

A very satisfying win that lifts the seconds off the bottom of the league and gives them a good chance of avoiding the drop into the Fifth Division.
