Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 54 runs

Match report Who needs 11 players when 8 were enough to earn a stirring victory over a Braintree side who had won their previous 5 league matches. The 8 all deserve a mention for their efforts, especially they way they superbly covered the gaps in the field so hats off to: skipper Ollie, 'keeper Neil, Will, Matt M, Matt N, Joe, JP and not forgetting the irrepressible Matt P.
The weather had left a nice green tinge to the strip so it was no surprise that Braintree won the toss and invited us to bat first. As we lost JP & Neil in the first 6 overs with only 20 on the board it had the potential to be a rather short afternoon. However, Matt N and Ollie had other ideas as they shared a superb 186 run partnership to steer the Green to a very respectable 237-5. Matt hit form to reach 61 only to be run-out late-on in search of quick runs, but, parental bias notwithstanding, Ollie stole the show with a excellent captain's innings of 117 (102 balls, 18 fours & 1 six); it's been long overdue and I'm very happy to report that this ton helped the team ultimately achieve victory.
Not to be outdone, Matt P took the bowling honours with 5-30 as he consistently found the line and length that was too much for the visiting batsmen. Joe and Matt N took a wicket apiece while Will showed off his spin-bowling skills and nabbed a brace of wickets. All of the bowlers were supported by their fielders who did a marvelous job of filling the gaps; well done chaps, that was an excellent afternoon's entertainment.
