Match report EAG v Copford

Hello Hello it’s good to be back, (last reference to Gary Glitter this season) but it was good to be back at the Green. It didn’t finish too well at Great Bromley the previous week, with defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. The reverse occurred on Sunday with victory from the jaws of defeat.

Having contained a youthful Copford side to 157 with good consistent bowling throughout, wickets divided amongst all bowlers but a special mention for Jim Crafford the prodigal son returning to the Green. Jim took two wickets in an 8 over spell when he ran in like Linford Christie, he then preceded to field like Tony Christie as the full extent of his exertions began to take effect, but.. he wasn’t finished yet.

A poor start in pursuit of the modest total saw the Green reduced to 43 for 5, Alistair Hammond along with Marsy then Danny took the score to 100. Still 50 short Jim joined Alistair and these two with some very sensible batting and the aid of a dropped catch here and there saw the Green home to victory by 2 wickets and a first win for Wayno as a skipper. Alistair Hammond’s 53 not out was one of his most patient and responsible innings’ for the Green.
