Eight Ash Green Cricket Club North Essex 1st XI (Sunday) v Gt Totham on Sun 05 Aug 2018 at 13:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 11 runs

Match report Another defeat I'm afraid, but at least we had a proper game of cricket with the result in the balance until the final overs; unfortunately we came out on the wrong side of that result, but there were still several positives to report.
Losing the toss enabled our visitors to bat first, but that just created the opportunity for the first of several Wyatt family roars to be heard as Ethan picked up his maiden adult wicket with only the fourth ball he bowled. None of the visiting batsmen got on top of our bowlers, with the remaining wickets shared between Matt, Sam (who got a three-for, though he freely admitted it was not his greatest bowling performance), and two each for the Ollie's Licence & Stovell. When the innings closed at 147 before the 30th over we all thought that the target was very get-able.
Our innings got off to a rather slow start from which we ultimately never recovered. Matt was promoted to open with Tim and while the latter threatened to anchor our innings to victory with a determined 43, Matt departed early-on. No worries, we thought as he was replaced by Saturday's centurion JP. Then again, we all know that JP is also capable of providing rather less trouble to the scorers and today was sadly one of those days, although at least he wasn't caught at mid-off! In came young Connor Murphy, who had put in a strong performance in the field and now gained some valuable experience in the middle, before perishing as he tried to accelerate. After skipper for the day Ollie Stovell enjoyed an all too brief stay at the crease, Wyatt senior (aka Duncan) almost stole the show; his 36 runs barely tells the tale as he provided such entertainment to the crowd with some of the most vociferous calling you will ever hear - it was suggested that one batsmen was run-out in Castle Park responding to one of Duncan's cries of Yeeeeeeeeesssss. As Sam joined Duncan and biffed a couple of boundaries it seemed that we might just make it home. However, the Great Totham bowlers steadied their collective nerves, took wickets at regular intervals and ultimately held on to win by 11 runs.
