Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) v Coggeshall II on Sat 08 Sep 2018 at 12:30
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 76 runs
Match report
A strong all-round performance saw the Green ease to what was ultimately a comfortable 76 run victory over Coggeshall IIs. Although the margin of victory was substantial, Coggeshall were up with the run rate beyond the half way point of their run-chase, only for a devastating spell of off-spin bowling from Joe, supported by Keith's swing, to help claim the victory.
Things hadn't started well when we lost the toss and were asked to bat and by the 11th over both Porky & Keith were back in the pavilion. With Stuart not available we needed the middle order to step up to the plate and thankfully Alex, Ollie and Will obliged. Alex was the initial aggressor striking 49 in a 104 run partnership with Ollie, the latter going on to an excellent 76 before falling late on as we sought to up the run rate towards the end of the innings. Will had a welcome return to form as he made 44 at better than a run-a-ball, his innings including several trademark classical onside drives. A final return of 246-7 was considerably more than initially expected and although the wicket was playing well, it offered something to the bowlers if they put it in the right place.
Coggeshall started off their reply with a flurry of boundaries, intent on a quick win and presumably usurping us for third place in the league. Matt, Oli & JP each took a wicket, but the asking rate was still well within reach until Joe really put the brakes on and then the wickets tumbled.
I should also say well done to Carla for a great tea :)
