Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) v Nacton on Sat 14 Jul 2018 at 13:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
The Green produced another highly efficient performance this afternoon, with contributions from all players in what was ultimately a comfortable 6 wicket win with more than 10 overs to spare.
Nacton chose to bat but came up against an inspired Sam Pace who was a constant threat in his two spells as he grabbed a four-for, while the ever-reliable Oli Firmin took three of his own. Wicket-taking support came from Troy and Joe, the latter's brace achieved during an economical but threatening spell - I think it's safe to say that Joe can leave his 'keeping gloves at the bottom of his bag. The outfield was extremely dry and hard, which at times made fielding a real challenge for both sides, though a couple of the catches that went down could hardly be blamed on that.
Having recovered from 51-5, our visitors may have thought that they had given themselves a total to defend in reaching 193 and although Porky set off in the same form he showed last Sunday in his glorious unbeaten 155, for once Stuart went early and then Porky's cameo stalled on 46, right after some numpty had tweeted that he was going well! In came Ollie to play an un-Ollie-like innings as he followed Porky's example in trying to score most of his runs in boundaries. Ollie fell for 32, which then allowed a third cameo as Will hit 35 including one on-drive that was simply sumptuous. Meanwhile Keith calmly accumulated yet another unbeaten half-century - it may not have been the skipper at his free-scoring best, but he assessed the situation perfectly and batted around the rest of the team to lead us home to maximum points once again.
