Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 1 run

Match report Apologies for the sporting cliche, but if ever a victory was snatched from the jaws of defeat this was it.
The Green were defending a perfectly respectable 249-5, but as Felixstowe & Corinthians brought the asking rate down from around 7, had set batsmen at the crease, 6 wickets in hand and only required 57 from 11 overs, it seemed as if there was no way back for us. But that didn't take into account the never-say-die attitude of the lads who kept chipping away - Stuart, Joe, Mark & Andrew grabbed two wickets apiece, but it was left to Stephen to deliver the coup de grace as he was rewarded for bowling straight, just as it seemed as if the visitor's last pair were going to see them home. Cue the inevitable roars of delight from our team, whilst the opposition looked crestfallen.
Our innings had featured a century opening partnership, with both Porky & skipper Keith reaching 50 at better than a run a ball, but neither could push on to a really big score. Indeed, the loss of both in the space of 5 overs helped to restrict the scoring rate for a time. That we pushed on to set the 250 target was largely thanks to Stuart's controlled aggression and a remarkably similar scoring rate to the openers as he posted his own unbeaten half-century, supported by a mature knock from young Will Spicer. Talk at the interval was that this was a challenging target and so it ultimately proved, but my it was close - if only every match could offer such drama.
