Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) v Elmstead II on Sat 15 Sep 2018 at 12:30
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 9 Runs

Match report Well as you can tell from our stats that Dave wasn't scoring today ! None the less, in a game where the Green had nothing to play for they came out on top against Elmstead who were fighting a double relegation! The day started with Porky winning the toss and inviting the Elmstead team to have a bowl at JP and himself. The Elmstead team fielding a very different side from the last time we played them, apparently their 1's only had 9 today. Alas they still managed to raise 11 for the away trip to the Green! JP got off well with a 6 off his 7th ball but struggled to get going, meanwhile porky knocked the ball about for a 37 off 38 ball cameo. In at number 3 was the Green's resident fruit bat Oli Firmin playing some delightful shots for his 31. A slight wobble with Spice and Scribble saw the Hammond brothers(?) come into bat at numbers 6&7. These two tormented the Elmstead bowling, biffing them into the site screens and car parks for good measure. Elliott Mann was the greatest casualty highlighting the importance of keeping wicket keepers away from the ball as he got dispatched by Stuart. Famously quoting "I just don't know where to bowl at him!" Keith fell on the search for quicker runs after a great knock which lead Steve to top edge the last ball to deep fine leg, only to be run out! A solid 268 the Green were feeling confident after a fantastic tea by Porky/Stuart.

JP & MP opened the bowling with eyes on the end of the season they struggled to find the length but when they did find the edge for both openers the slips weren't paying attention.. Elmstead's Sarsby biffed the ball off a quicker run rate than Keith and we were only saved by the fact he had work in 10 minutes (remind you of Jamie Murray?) and retired not out. After that the Green through Steve Nunn and Oli Firmin built the pressure and wicket's began to fall on the regular, not without the help of Will Spicer who plucked out catch of the season. Creamed by E. Mann the cries of "SHOT" were quickly silenced as out from mid-on Spicerack grasped the ball out of the air to silence the capacity crowd. A late resurgence from number 7 J. Butcher kept the Green on their toes but that man Keith Hammond kept the run rate down with help from agile and ever alert Matt Parker at backward point.. The victory was enjoyed with £2 pints! A good end to an unexpectedly good season! See you tomorrow at Halstead! P.S thanks to Dave Stovell for drinking a Corona.
