Match report A grey afternoon saw the twos take on Cavaliers at the rugby club, and instantly reminded everyone of what a terrible place to play cricket it is. Winning the toss, EAGCC boldly/stupidly batted first and set a total of 155 in tricky conditions, thanks to a tremendously disciplined 59* from Ollie Stovell and 39 from captain Keeble.
In the field, the bowlers did not do themselves justice. After a strong start from openers Matt Parker and Calum McDonald where just 11 runs came from the first 6 overs, lines and lengths wavered and the bludgeoning commenced, catches were dropped and morale drooped. The introduction of Jens after a lengthy spell on the sidelines proved to be the boost everyone needed, striking 4 times in his first two overs of the season - including the key wickets of Murtaza (54) and Jalib (59).
This slowed the scoring rate dramatically, but unfortunately for the twos the Cavaliers managed to drag themselves over the line with 3 wickets to spare. A close game and much learnt going forward for this relatively inexperienced side!
