Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 30 Runs

Match report Due to a problem with the EAG fixture list, the Under 15s visited Kelvedon for the second night running, with a changed side from the one that expected to play the previous evening. Unfortunately despite a very good bowling performance the batting again let the team down as Kevedon ran out winners by 30 runs.

Bowling first the Green’s main bowling quartet of Nathan, Matt, Richard and Sam P all bowled well and had Kelvedon in a bit of trouble at 41 for 5. Despite being one man short the fielding was very good with Richard and Peter taking some excellent catches. Unfortunately, as is often the case some big hitting from one batsman turned the course of the innings. Kelvedon’s Luke Pordham rode his luck to make 40 which helped Kelvedon to 104-8 at the close of the innings.

When the Green batted they were soon in trouble with both openers dismissed cheaply, however 13 year old Jonathan Purser , on his debut for this team, was the star batsmen making an outstanding 30. The fact that he scored 30 out of the teams score of 39 when he was dismissed, was a measure of how well he batted. Unfortunately, apart from some late boundaries by Matt and Sam P, no one was able to support Jonathan and the team was bowled out for 74.
