Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U15 v Kelvedon on Thu 19 May 2011 at 6.00pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost By 15 Runs
Match report
The Under 15s played their second game in two days, against a strong Kelvedon team and despite losing by 15 runs, put in a very good performance.
Kelvedon batted first and got off to a flying start with the opening batsmen making 44 off the first six overs. But the introduction of Sam Pace resulted in the dismissal of both batsmen in the same over. The third wicket pair then put on 44 as well, but at lesser run rate as Sam and Jake did well to contain the batsmen in the middle overs. Sam Ward came on and dismissed both the batsmen, one a smart stumping by Leighton to get out the top scorer. Matt took the sixth wicket in the final over, but Kelvedon closed on a challenging 126-6.
A new opening pair of Leighton and Elliott walked out to face a very good pair of Kelvedon bowlers who made run scoring difficult, and restricted the Green to only 6 off the first 5 overs. When the change bowlers came on, scoring became a bit easier and Leighton and Matt made 22 and 18 respectively. Richard (33) and Jake (16) then batted really well, to put 48 on for the 5th wicket, and just for a moment, what had seemed unlikely earlier was now an outside possibility, but unfortunately both batsmen were out in quick succession trying to win the match and the Green fell 15 runs short of their target.
Although we have lost both matches this week, we have played two very strong teams both packed with players with District experience. Batting has been a weakness for this team over the last 3 years, but today the boys did well to get as close to the Kelvedon total as they did, and in doing so made our highest league total since June 08.
