Royal Household v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club PDQ 1st XI on Sun 31 Jul 2011 at 1pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets
Match report
Eight Ash Green lost to Royal Household Cricket Club by 4 wickets in a friendly played in the grounds of Windsor Castle. Following Royal Household’s tour to Colchester last year where they played Eight Ash Green, winning by 5 wickets, the green were invited for a return match at this very prestigious location.
Eight Ash Green took a squad of 14 with Kevin Smith, Tom Lissimore and James Fisher operating as fielders only.
Eight Ash Green batted first with James Warner and Richard Polley opening for the Green. It was a slow start and Paul Marston was required in only the 4th over when Polley was caught behind for 0 leaving the green 4-1. Warner and Marston put on a further 43 together before Marston was bowled for 22. Will Shearman came in at number 4 and partnered Warner, who was trapped LBW for 22. Despite Shearman’s quick fire 31 off 32 balls, the green suffered a mid order collapse with only Liam Walsh (11) and Oliver Firmin (20*) contributing any further runs to Eight Ash Green’s total, finishing on 118.
Royal Household’s openers started brightly, hitting 33 off 5 overs before Alastair Maitland claimed his first wicket, with Matt Chambers holding onto a catch in the covers. This was quickly followed by Nathan Taylor catching the new batsman off Firmin’s bowling. Royal Household’s batsmen retained their composure and batted steadily; reaching 70 before opener Morgan was run out by Warner on 44, having hit 4 successive 4’s.
The runs slowed off the bowling of Tom Aston and Matt Chambers and with the green claiming a further 3 wickets, it looked like the Royal Household may struggle to reach the modest target, but they eventually managed it with four wickets to spare.
