Mistley v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U13 on Tue 15 Jun 2010 at 18:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 3 runs
Match report
Wow. What a game. Cricket matches don't get much better than this. Stunning individual skill and determination, combined with gutsy team-work, saw EAG snatch a spectacular victory this evening.
At one point, the visitors had barely made double figures when their 5th wicket fell. They only had 37 runs when the 7th went. Ouch. Forunately, having saved the best til last, EAG scored 78 runs for the last three wickets, taking them to 109 all out. James Parker, No.1 batsman, stayed til the end, notching up 63 runs, a splendid effort in the face of some accurate, hostile bowling. Jonathan Purser offered some support, scoring a cool 14 runs. Elliot Cryne then steadied the attack with some strong hitting, to finish with 11 runs, before Toby Edwards, in his debut for Eight Ash Green, ably played some fine strokes to see James Parker through to the 18th over, ensuring a 35 run, last wicket stand. Brilliant.
Elliot Drage bowled a great line and length to finish with figures of 4 overs for 10 runs, while Jonathan Purser went for only 7 runs in his first spell of three overs. Charlie Lovejoy also bowled well for three overs, conceding only 8 runs, Dominic Rice conceding only 16 runs and taking a wicket in his first three. The first three batsmen, whilst batting well, could not score quickly enough. With some sharp fielding and excellent field setting from Captain Cryne, Mistley were always going to struggle at the death. Losing wickets did not help, Jonathan trapping No.5 LBW and some terrific fielding taking another run-out. Dominic Blanchard bowled well but most memorably took a difficult catch in the deep off Capt.Cryne's own bowling, Cryne bravely picking himself to bowl 2 overs, conceding only 7 runs for two wickets. Great stuff. EAG's latter overs were expensive and put them under uneccessary pressure, but their nerve held firm and all the boys deserved a win for their effort.
This was another milestone in their cricketing development and their understanding of this complex game. Well done.
