Match report The Under 14’s played their second game of the season at Mistley on a warm and sunny evening.

Richard won the toss and playing to the team’s strength asked Mistley to bat. The Green’s bowling attack again performed well, aided tonight by some variable bounce on the new youth wicket at Mistley. The Chapman brothers shared five wickets between them and Jake, Nathan and Joseph claimed one each. Mistley were restricted to 72 for 8 off their 20 overs, but this would prove a challenging target on such a difficult wicket.

Like last week, the opposition had two very good opening bowlers who bowled quick and accurately and aided by the wicket made run scoring difficult. Josh C played a number of nice looking shots only to find a fielder each time, while Jake was unlucky to be out to a Suffolk county bowler. However once the first two bowlers had finished their over’s, scoring became easier. Matt P batted sensibly for his 15 while Richard had the distinction of being the only batsman not to be dismissed ‘bowled’ in the match. Owen did well on his debut, but it was left to the reliable Sam and Isaac to see the Green to victory in the 17th over, making an unbeaten 17 and 8 respectively.

The boys have made a good start to the season in the higher league, hopefully they can make it a hat trick of wins when they travel to Witham next Tuesday.
