Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 22 Runs

Match report The Under 14s began their season with a 22 run win over Frinton on a sunny but bitterly cold evening at the Green.

The Green batted first but the early batsmen found run making difficult against the excellent opening bowlers from Frinton who were bowling fast and accurately, after 7 over’s the Green only had 17 on the board for the loss of Nathan and Matt P. Richard tried to increase the run rate hitting the first boundaries of the innings on his way to a quick 18. Sam and Isaac then produced a good partnership continuing to accelerate the run rate before Sam was out for the top score of 30. Isaac partnered by Peter batted well to take the score to a competitive 100 before Isaac was out for 22 off the last ball of the innings.

Last season the great strength of this team was the bowling, and this proved the case again tonight, it was a good all round performance with the ball to restrict a Frinton team, which contained several very good players, to just 78. The wickets were shared between Isaac, Josh, Jake and Matt D, while Richard and Matt P both bowled tightly giving little away. Joseph also bowled well in his debut match and Josh produced the best bit of fielding of the night to run out the dangerous Frinton captain with a direct hit of the stumps. Special mention should also go to Sam who did well with the keepers gloves deputising for the injured Leighton.

Overall it was a good performance albeit with improvements needed in the field and with the pacing of our batting.
