Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 87 Runs

Match report What a difference a week makes! Last week at Stebbing the 2nds barely scraped a single batting point, this week they make an amazing 327 for 4 to run out winners by 87 runs against North Springfield Wanderers at the Green on Sunday.

Star of the show was Skipper Kev who took advantage of some poor fielding to make a typically aggressive hard hitting 147. Century partnerships with Marsy, 40 (although he wasn’t too chuffed to find himself at the same end as the skipper!) and Colin 43, saw boundaries flying to all parts of the ground as the NSW bowlers wilted in the hot sunny weather. Stephen made an unbeaten 39 in quick time, while Kevin was eventually out 3 over’s from the end of the innings, for what was a personal best score. Jens was the other not out batsmen with 8 and extras were the second highest scorer with 50.

If NSW were to get anywhere near the target, they had to make a flying start to their innings, but Alex and Stephen bowled well early on and restricted NSW to around 40 off the first ten over’s which was well below the run rate. Ally took a smart catch running in from the deep mid wicket boundary off the bowling of DJM, and Nick was the most successful bowler taking 2 for 32 while Matt also bowled well giving nothing away. Although the NSW opening batsman made an unbeaten 108, they never really threatened to make the target.

A great win for the Green, built on the outstanding effort of Kevin and well supported by the team, hopefully we can maintain this form for the visit of Colchester 3rds next Saturday.
