Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 5 Runs

Match report The 2nd XI made the journey to Wormingford on Sunday, with a team that had an ‘experienced’ look to it, and came away winning by 5 runs.

The Green batted first with Paul Marston, top scoring with 42, support was provided by Neil Brinded 15, Colin Hammond 12 and Nick Murray unbeaten on 18. Given the lack of ‘aggressive fast bowling’ in the Green’s line up, the score of 132 – 9 looked a little short of a match winning total.

When the Green fielded specialist wicketkeeper Liam Walsh was asked to hand the ‘gloves’ to Neil as Liam was one of only 4 team members who could actually move around the outfield at anything above walking pace. Opening the bowling, DJM took an early wicket but subsequently the Wormingford top order seemed to heading for a comfortable win until inspired bowling from the ‘wily’ trio of Merriday, Murray and Hammond saw the Green home to victory in an exciting finish. Colin taking an outstanding 5 – 13.
