St. Osyth v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club 1st XI on Sun 25 Apr 2010 at
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 71 runs
Match report
EAG 218-8
ST OSYTH 147-10
Opening game, 10 men and an hour of rain. If i'm honest i didn't think we would get a game in, let alone 20 points!
After the pre match rain had cleared the pitch dried very quickly and the Green were asked to bat first. A new opening pair of Luke and Nippy got off to a shaky start, with wides top scoring in the first few overs. Nippy was first to go, attempting a booming drive for 3 with the score on 10. This year see's the addition to every match report, 'Nippy's diary of excuses and sayings'. Entry one: "I didn't feel good and the bounce was to high for me".
Anyway, back to the game. Wayno joined Luke and both batsmen scored quickly and freely, with all bowlers spraying the ball both sides of the wicket. After a partnership of 64, Luke skied a drive straight to mid off for a well made 36. Wayno continued to enjoy the bowler, which allowed Danny to overcome a scratchy start. Wayno passed fifty, before Danny (27) knocked back a simple c+b chance and the partnership was ended on 94. With Wayno falling in the next over, the green managed to pass the 200 mark and set St Osyth 219 for victory.
St Osyth came out the blocks flying before Nippy made the all important first breakthrough. With the game very much in the balance, the introducing of slow bowling really made the dufference. Danny (3-29), Wayno (1-31) and Tom A (4-10) all bowled very tightly and were aided by an all round good effort in the field. Tom A took the final wicket with the last ball of the 39th over with the score on 147.
VICTORY BY 71 RUNS AND 20 POINTS.
Should we field 10 men every game? Answers on a post card.... DH
