Mistley v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U12 on Sun 26 Jul 2009 at 10:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 53 runs

Match report This was a very different match from the previous week's encounter in which Mistley came close to overhauling EAG's sizeable total. This time however, even with home support on a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning, Mistley struggled to achieve half of their dominant visitors' total.

Ben Kelland and Matt Parker opened with an assured yet overly conservative innings, scoring only 31 runs from the first eight overs. Having said this, 4 an over against some tight bowling is something to be commended. 20/20 cricket is markedly different in style and it is important, with wickets in hand, to put pressure on the fielders, take the initiative and be bold. James Parker and Sam Pace came in after 10 overs and played boldly, James quickly reaching 25 not out.

Fraser and Matthew then batted very well to score a quick partnership worth 37 runs, just what the game called for, some excellent running between the wickets and some confident strokes. So the first eight overs went for 31 runs, the last eight, 67!

EAG bowled aggressively and consistently well to restrict Mistley, all players contributing something to the attack. Ethan Truscott, in his first match for The Green, bowled 2 overs, both maidens - congratulations to him. Pleasingly, all players again bowled two overs each, proving that this talented team has strength throughout. James Parker took two lovely catches, one off the slow left-arm of Harry Louch and one off the pace bowling of Dominic Rice - both excellent dismissals. Sam Pace also used speed to good effect, while also varying his length, a bouncer followed by a yorker, finishing by clean bowling Mistley's No.4 batsman. Dan Rice and Ben Kelland also bowled someone out and Matt Parker had Michael Johnston caught at midwicket. Michael's brother Ciaran went on to score an undefeated 19 having kept wicket for the home side. EAG's fielding was again very solid, giving very little away, keeping the pressure on the batsmen all the time.

Mistley showed off some talented young players this morning but were defeated by age and experience. Once again, both teams played some excellent cricket in a highly commendable spirit.
