Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U11 Z5 v Chappel on Wed 24 Jun 2009 at 18.00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 7 runs

A return to winning ways.
However when we bowled there were still too many wides & dropped catches. Some of the returns were unleased with little thought as to who may be backing up. Dominic Doherty & Jamie Murray did best taking 2 wickets a piece.
The batting was much improved, running between wickets was excellent.I thought all batsmen were patient and played some very correct shots where necessary.
Jamie Murray 13 & Thomas Potter 12 were the highest scorers.
Well done boys.

Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U13 v Elmstead on Thu 18 Jun 2009 at 18.00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

The under 13s maintained their 100% record this season by beating Elmstead by 3 wickets at the Heath tonight. Richard won the toss and invited Elmstead to bat. Elmstead opener Elliott batted well for 16 but wickets fell at regular intervals until Webster (20 not out)and Beattie (12 not out)increased the total to 90 for 8 from their 20 overs. All bowlers did well with the pick of the bunch being Josh Chapman who bowled a miserly spell of 0 for 1 off 3 overs. Isaac took two wickets and there was one each for Richard, Jake, Matt D and Nathan. Jake took three catches, one of which was outstanding and a smart piece of work from Leighton resulted in one of two run outs, Matt P being responsible for the other one. Fielding was once again excellent.

The Green's reply got off to the worst possible start with Matt P out to the first ball of the innings and Richard out to the sixth ball to leave the Green on 3 for 2 at the end of the first over. However the situation did not faze Sam Ward who set about playing a match winning innings of 32 which included 5 fours. Jake and Isaac provided Sam with support before Nathan (19 not out) and Matt D (6 Not Out) saw the Green to the target of 91 with 5 overs to spare.

Again a good all round performance.....roll on Dedham & Frinton for the full house!

Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U12 v Kelvedon on Thu 25 Jun 2009 at 18.00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 29 runs

EAG and Kelvedon played out a fantastic game of 20/20 cricket at The Green this balmy summer evening. Kelvedon elected to field first, allowing first-time openers Ollie Burns and Matt Parker to get things going. Ollie swung at a straight ball in the fourth over, giving up his wicket having taken a good couple of singles.

This was a match peppered with champagne moments from two committed, sporting, well-skilled teams. Firstly, Matt Parker finished by retiring on 26 after 12 overs to make way for others. He retired as debutant No.3 Sam Pace was caught chasing his half-century. Sam hit the ball hard, playing an assured innings with a good balance of shots on the leg and off sides and off the front and back feet. He was unfortunately caught close to the square leg boundary, attempting to finish his personal best innings on a high.

James Parker and Dominic Rice started by playing some great-looking shots but were out cheaply, James, run-out trying to sneak a single and Dom trapped in front by a straight delivery that kept low. Dom Blanchard scored his first runs of the season but with only a few overs remaining and wickets in-hand, he was run-out pushing for a second. Matthew Parker didn't have much of a chance to settle into his innings before swinging carelessly at a straight ball, then Matthew Wadling and Elliot Drage completed the innings with a useful addition of 15 to the total.

Another champagne moment came with the Kelvedon's captain and opening bat, Sean Cleverdon scoring 51 not out. The home side's bowling was excellent as was the fielding and Sean played fantastically well whereas the rest of his team were unable to escape the onslaught. EAG demonstrated their all-round ability and strength in depth by each player bowling two overs, restricting the runs and taking wickets. Dom Rice took an outstanding one-handed catch at silly mid-off to dismiss Kelvedon's No.2 in the fourth over, following it up with another 5 balls later to leave Elliot Drage with bowling figures of 2 overs, 1 maiden, 2 wickets for 6 runs - outstanding! Special mention to bowlers who conceded less than ten runs in their two overs: Fraser, Dominic Rice (1 wicket), Ollie Burns, Matthew Parker and Matt Parker (2 wickets). While Charlie Cresswell bowled well for only 14 runs, he helped everyone else's economy with some athletic, confident fielding. Dom Blanchard and Sam Pace both turned the ball, Dom taking one deserved wicket.

Overall this was a splendid evening of good quality cricket, enjoyed by many. Well done to all who played and displayed the best qualities of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Mersea v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U14 on Mon 22 Jun 2009 at
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won eagcc won by 137 runs

Bullock smashes ton as Under 14’s cruise to victory at Mersea

West Mersea CC, so often the scene of senior disasters was the setting for an astonishing piece of batting by Jack Bullock.

On a sunny evening EAG had no hesitation in batting first. George Shepherd went early and was shortly followed by Rueben Dewa. Bullock was then joined by Dan Lennard-Jones who supported Jack in a sustained assault on the Mersea bowling.

Bullock passed his 50 in the 12th over and then proceeded to dispatch the ball to all parts of the Island hitting 16 boundaries in the process. As the 19th over came along Jack smashed the ball to the boundary again and raised his bat to the crowd who applauded a fantastic innings. Credit must also go to Dan who finished on 42 not out as he supported Jack all the way to the etxraordinary total of 187 for 2.

The Mersea innings was something of an anti climax as they collapsed to 51 all out with the wickets shared between the six bowlers used.

The Mersea boys were also a real credit to their club playing with a good spirit and in good humour throughout.

Chappel v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U16 on Fri 08 May 2009 at
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 35 Runs

The first game of the season started with a friendly against Chappel for this colts team. After a few late arrivals, the toss was done at the boundary by a highly professional looking captain that was Josh Lennard-jones. Unfortunately he lost it, but luckily the Green were put into bat, looking to post a big total against a Chappel side consisting of only 9 men and a very short leg-side boundary.

The game got off to a slow start, with the openers struggling to find runs. As well as this, wickets were falling at regular intervals with Oscar Clayson (5), Charlie Docherty (0), Ollie Hearsum (7) and Curtis Farthing (2) all out within the first 10 overs. With a collapse looking on the cards, Luke Keeble got to the crease and hit 46, with able support from Jake Budd (7) and Richard Nunn (20), who both batted well. The last few overs included some worrying moments, especially with the running, but the score was taken to 114-9 with a reverse hit from Josh that was given as a leg bye.

The Chappel innings began with a few words exchanged between opening bowler Josh Jennard-Jones (1-12) and their batsman, with the latter coming out on top, smashing a four first ball. After this minor blip, a wicket came for Josh, then Jack Airey (0-24) bowled tightly at the other end as well. Once more, the Green were taking wickets regularly at this point, keeping Chappel pinned down. An inspired performance from Jake Budd (3-2) and Oscar Clayson (2-12) meant that we were firmly on top throughout, even giving a chance to Luke Keeble to unleash his pace upon the world. With Chappel bowled out for 79, Eight Ash Green ran out comfortable winners.

Haverhill II v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Academy XI on Sat 27 Jun 2009 at 13:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 6 wkts

On a day when the Green fielded more Nunns than appeared in the Sound of Music, they hoped for a better outcome having posted a total 190 having been put into bat a good wicket at Haverhill. An opening stand of 108 from openers Richard Polley and Nippy laid a good base for the innings, wickets fell regularly after their dismissals and total was boosted by Ali Maitland whose 42 not out was achieved in rapid time. Unfortunately The Green didnt make Haverhill work hard enough for their runs and their batsman punished anything short or wide. Ali Hammond took 3 wickets but Haverhill overhauled the Green for the loss of 4 wickets. Back to the Nunns, Barry stepping in at the last minute took a good catch as the ball was drilled into his windpipe, Stephen and Richard made some fine stops, with Richard having the added bonus of taking his first senior wicket.
