*GREENPIECE*-EVERYONE WINS, QUIZ NIGHT & 1000 TWINS?!

05 Sep 2018

2’s Trump Mersea

A closer than expected encounter took place at the Green on Saturday as the 2’s tackled West Mersea. The Pace Partners in Troy Collins & Calum McDonald set the tone for the game bowling tight, tricky lines. They both picked up a brace as the only other bowler to take a wicket was Ed. However, with only 136 on the board the Green got in a sticky situation as Mersea’s A. Tiwari picked up 6 wickets! After a sizeable collapse Calum & Sam Collins steadied the ship and saw the Green home with 8 overs to spare. Matt Norris top scored with 38. The 2s have a break before finishing their season next Saturday.

1's Return to St Margarets

A solid team performance against bottom of the league St Margarets had a bit of everything. It had: a green moist wicket, a James Parker cameo, a Stuart Hammond century, a Will Spicer golden duck, a magic 43 from Keith & a 2 ball spell from Oli Firmin. Batting first on a bowler’s paradise Stuart and Keith Hammond showed everyone how to bat on it with sensible, safe batting which allowed the tail to wag in the form of Ollie Stovell swinging for 48 runs. After discussing a sensible score of 170 the 1s were pleased to post 240 from their 45 overs. In reply the first 2 balls were waist high no balls and in turn Oli Firmin lost the right to bowl! Luckily JP bowled exceptionally as did all the bowlers M Parker picking up 3. St M’s didn’t get a sniff of victory after being bowled out for 109. The 1’s last two games are at home this week and next. This Saturday facing Coggeshall & a Stovell tea!

Sunday 1’s Revenge v Witham

After the Sunday team lost to Witham earlier in the season by 200+ runs a remarkable victory took place away from home on Sunday. Ethan Wyatt picked up the wicket of a division 1 batsman, Matt Murray took his first international wicket and Alex Hammond’s first 50 since his injury! Porky again set the standard tonking the bowlers all over the park on a bat first track hitting 77 off 64 balls. Alex Hammond second top scored with 56 from 45 balls. Giving Witham 245 to chase a few players were worried seeing Zimbabwean international F. Mutizwa returning against the Green. However, his visit was short after some close LBW shouts Matt Murray had him play a loose shot into the hands of Matt Norris. Meanwhile, 12 year old Ethan Wyatt ( Col Brewery Man of the Match) picked up the wicket of a Witham first teamer! Then ‘Spin Twins’ MP43 and Will Spicer tied Witham down both picking up 3 wickets. Captain Ollie Stovell finished the game with an LBW. Well done boys, now Abberton at home on Sunday!
