*GREENPIECE* SUPER SUNDAY & CRUCIAL SATURDAY

15 Aug 2018

8 Man Green Beat Braintree

Wow. Nowhere to start this week other than the incredible victory on Sunday which saw the Green for the first time come off the bottom of the table after a tremendous victory. With only 8 players and batting first on a fresh wicket the Green didn’t get off to a great start with JP & Neil falling by the 6th over. However, Captain Stovell (Ollie) & Matt Norris got the Green going with an outstanding 186 run partnership 117 of those runs came from Ollie and 53 from Norris. The Green continued the charge with wickets in hand Will Spicer had the freedom to play 2- yes 2 reverse sweeps! Joe Young replaced Matt Norris and kept the scoreboard ticking with Will. With 237 on the board the Green had something to bowl at and luckily plenty of bowlers. Unluckily, besides the bowler and Neil behind the stumps there were only 6 fielders. None the less early pressure from Matt Parker & Jonathan Purser kept Braintree to a quiet start. Next on to bowl was Will Spicer bowling his off spinners him and Joe Young kept taking wickets at the perfect time picking out a few fielders on the way. Some superb fielding backed up the bowlers when it was needed and Matt Parker picked up 5 wickets for 30 runs in a very Dom Purser-esque spell at the end. Overall, a superb victory enjoyed with the BBQ after and everyone receiving the Colchester Brewery Man of the Match! (Sorry for the long report but it was such a good game.)

Stuart Steers the Green Home

Another near-perfect innings from Stuart saw the Green chase down Halstead’s 176 at the Green. The match started well with Oli Firmin & Mark Goodall bowling all the way through to 30 overs restricting Halstead’s batsmen. Mark unlucky not to finish with a wicket but Oli took 3, Steve & JP 1. The Green got going with Oli opening the batting alongside Stuart. Stuart was very lucky after getting dropped in the 2nd over. This stirred him on if anything as he lost partners around him before scoring the winning runs with Mark in the 38th over. A massive game on Saturday as the Green face Stowmarket.

2’s Lose to Locals

A spirited effort by the 9 men of the 2nds saw them lose out with 5 just 5 overs to go. An opening partnership of 81 between Richard Polley and Nick White Robinson laid the foundation for a good innings and the lower order batsman almost doubled the score in the last 10 overs. Despite good spells of tight bowling from Ed Lambert Clarke and Matt Murray, we didn't take enough wickets to peg back Boxted's scoring and they achieved victory with 5 overs to spare. With 4 games left the 2’s face Chappel & Wakes Colne this week.

PIErates Well Beaten in Final

Yesterday the PIErates took on the University team in a Tuesday league final. A superb knock by Joe Whyte was not enough to secure victory as we were well beaten by a good team. The anti door activists will take on Chappel & WC in a plate final.

A quiet GreenPiece this week but next week we have the Youth Report and the results from the big clash on Saturday!
