*GREENPIECE* 1'S 10 WICKET HAUL - SOFTBALL SUCCESS & CRICKET WEEK UPDATE

12 Jul 2018

Sorry for the delay I was watching it not come home last night..

1’s Win Just After 1

A complete team performance on Saturday for the 1sts ensured a full 20 point victory with every bowler taking wickets & a comprehensive 10 wicket victory. With the match starting at 10am for the Football the Green managed to finish the match at 13:10! Sam Pace & Matt Parker took 3 wickets each with Keith & Ollie settling for a brace each. Bowling Maldon all out for only 85. Stuart and Porky easily got the Green to the total with a staggering 23 overs to spare. The Green now play Nacton at home on Saturday, the last time the teams met a close 13 run victory followed so here’s hoping for a more comfortable victory!

Catches Cost the Sunday Team

Abberton won the toss, chose to bat and smacked our bowling to all parts in reaching 329-8 from their 40 overs. We made a decent fist of the reply and on another day 276-3 would be a winning total, but not today. Things could have been different if we hadn't shelled their opening bat White no fewer than five times as he made his way to 180, the first of which was when he had made a mere 16. Ah well, another chance will come along we said, and it did, and again; I think you get the picture! Fortunately we held on to a few later in the innings or maybe we would have been chasing 350. Bowling honors perhaps to Ollie whose 2-46 was the only spell at under a run-a-ball. Although, Matt Parker did take 3 wickets. However, Colchester Brewery Man of the Match went to James Parker for an outstanding 155* (carrying his bat) which on another day would’ve been a match winning knock. No match on Sunday.

Soft Ball Success!

Eight Ash Green Cricket hosted its first Women's Cricket Festival on Friday, six teams took part, a vast majority experiencing cricket for the first time. Each team were supported by a member of the EAG senior team who guided their respective teams in the skills of batting bowling and fielding. After two hours of cricket, presentations were made, all teams were declared winners receiving a bottle of Prosecco and a selection of Cup cakes in recognition of their taking part. Many thanks to all those who supported the teams, Mike Purser for pitch preparation, Matt Blair for manning the BBQ and especially to Kathryn Spicer for the planning and organisation of the evening. and to Kelly Castle of Essex Cricket who provided the cricket equipment and kit for players and helpers.

The Plan for Cricket Week

Eight Ash Green’s famous week commences on Tuesday the 31st of July with the U15’s taking on the Woman’s Team. On the Wednesday another youth match as the U11’s take on the U13’s. The Thursday the Green take on the infamous Two Counties over 50’s with lots of guests, sponsors and food it should be a great day. Also we are hopefully hosting the County Championship Trophy that Essex famously won last year! Finally, on the Friday we host the touring Rayleigh and possibly the Pub Quiz too! The Saturday & Sunday the Green host the usual fixtures.
