1’s Ease Past Elmstead

After a relatively strong start by Elmstead with the bat on Saturday the Green got things going with a superb opening spell from Oli Firmin. Keith Hammond took the most wickets with 3 however Oli’s were crucial and in the midday sun! Tying Elmstead down in the middle overs provided crucial as Elmstead scampered to 252 for 8. The Green played promisingly with James & Stuart’s 100 run partnership starting the innings off. Jamie replaced James and an outstanding cameo followed with Jamie hitting 49 off 22 balls! Stuart meanwhile kept going to which saw him score 110* giving the Green a comfortable 7 wicket victory & Colchester Brewery Man of the Match. See below for the details of the home game on Saturday.

2’s Lose Out to Locals

A target of 244 for victory proved to be too much for the 2s, who eventually lost to our neighbours from Bergholt by 91 runs. Bergholt's top 3 scored most of their 243-4, each passing a half century, with Mahdevappa left unbeaten a mere 5 runs short of his ton when the overs ran out. Skipper Ed picked up a couple of wickets, with Calum & Bevin sharing the others, although it was only our favourite kiwi who manged to keep the scoring rate down.In reply, several batsmen made starts, but Duncan's 31 and Ed's 23 were as good as it got until Calum came in at 10 and with a late flurry hit an unbeaten 24; as Sam stayed with him to the end, at least we made our visitors bowl through 40 overs. The 2’s now play Maldon away on Saturday (possibly)

Women’s Summary

In the first season of our team rebuild we have welcomed some fantastic new players. Karen Elliott who keeps wicket and hasn't missed a game all season. She comes out from behind the stumps to bowl too. Serena Mills who is one of the 'mum's at the club has come whenever her work schedule has permitted and fitted in with ease. She always has a huge smile on her face and loves all the banter. Claire Bull was roped in by myself, being a good friend of mine for many years. She is very competitive with a good understanding of the game. Has progressed brilliantly with her batting and has also started to bowl. Millie Longman and Millie Green have stepped up from the U15's and have both been absolute stars.
Having had 2 games canceled we managed to play 6. Unfortunately we lost all 6 but have had an absolute blast at every one and we are renown for the best teas in the league!! With not having a full team at any time our opponents have been fantastic and helped us along at every stage. Lending us fielders and always encouraging us. Obviously we would like to welcome any ladies of any ability to join in the fun on a Friday night.. even if it is just to sample our tea...
On that note I would also like to mention  Debbie Green Jilly Powles and Sue Miller who have played alongside me for many seasons and turn out every week. Hannah Porter, Louise Gaskin, Chris Cunningham, Lynsey Mitson, Zoe Perkin, Ellen Powles and Vicky Dillion who have helped make up the numbers when they could, and also our umpire John Stonehouse who always has something to say!!   THANK YOU ALL.
The ladies are all ready looking forward to next season.

It’s Coming Home!

If you were unaware England play Sweden on Saturday for a place in the Semi Finals of the World Cup! A lot of talk is going on about the 1’s game as Maldon seem keen to watch the football. However, whatever the outcome we will be displaying the match on the big screen with Col Brewery’s “Back of the Net” beer. Call us superstitious but England have won every match when we have had the beer on! So come on down & support Club & Country!
