*GREENPIECE* - 1'S RETURN TO WINNING WAYS & TABLE TOP FOOTBALL

20 Jun 2018

1’s Comfortably beat St Margarets

The 1’s glided past bottom of the league ‘St M’s’ with a solid 9 wicket victory. 6 of the starting 11 for the Green played in the last meeting of the two teams on Sunday the 25th of August 2013 in the ‘game of the century.’ If you need reminding the match report can be found here. However, a different Margarets team with some very large and loud absentees were only able to field 9 players. Annoyingly for the Green they were unable to bowl out some stubborn batsmen. Matt Parker taking 2 in 2 balls (all bouncers..) and tight bowling from Joe Young restricted the ‘Mags’ to 145 off their 45. The total was comfortably reached by the returning Ollie Stovell & Stuart Hammond just after drinks. They now play locals Coggeshall away this Saturday.

2's Lose to W. Bergholt

Sadly we cannot give you information on the 2’s match versus West Bergholt as the scorecard was not uploaded & Play-Cricket has crashed this evening. The only information we can give is that West Bergholt lost the toss and batted first, getting bowled out for 122 in the last over. In reply the Green unfortunately fell short in a tight finish with 103 all out after 37.2 overs. They play at home this week against Seasiders Maldon.

Sunday get Smashed by Witham

It goes without saying the Sunday team were comprehensively beaten by Witham on Sunday. An unbeaten 170 from their overseas Zimbabwean made the Green’s chase virtually impossible. Bevin Guthrie (1 for 50 from 9) and Matt Parker (0 for 44 from 9) were the bowlers to suffer least damage. The most memorable moment was from Ollie Stovell.. no not for his batting.. one of his overs went for 28! I believe they are still looking for some of those balls! The Green’s chase never got going but returning slogger Jack Smith added 30 before being run out. A 59 for Ollie and an unbeaten 71 for James Parker made sure the Green got max batting points. IMPORTANTLY the game this Sunday against Halstead has been moved to Aug 19th!
