*GREENPIECE* - KWIK CRICKET FESTIVAL & WORLD CUP

14 Jun 2018

Sorry for the delay we’ve all been preparing for the Kwik Cricket Festival!

1’s Lose vs Woodbridge

A slow start from the Green gifted Woodbridge 80+ runs more than they should have with their opener slogging our opening bowlers around the park. Colchester Brewery Man of the Match went to Matt Parker who took the wicket of the Woodbridge opener and managed to keep the run rate down. Chasing 244 the Green looked in good stead. However, as the Green were getting on top of Woodbridge Alex Hammond’s knee injury troubled him and he had to retire on 40. The Green could not get going after even with a flurry of boundaries from Jamie Murray and were 20 runs short at the end of the innings. The 1’s play at home vs St. Margaret’s on Saturday.

2’s Win vs Witham

The 2’s secured a convincing win vs Witham last week. Bowling first the Green did well to restrict Witham to 177. Some great bowling from Jens Wair, Ed Lambert Clarke & Bevin Guthrie all taking wickets. After both openers for the Green scored 0 the ship was steadied by a mature knock from both youngsters Tom Lee (28) & James Plummer (22). All Greenies got runs with the top scorer Ed Lambert Clarke finishing the job not out on 42. This week they play down the road at West Bergholt.

Sunday 1’s Beat Chappel

The Sunday 1’s recorded their first win in the new season against local lads Chappel & Wakes Colne. The Green were put in to bat and openers Will Spicer and Richard Nunn got underway with a solid 50 partnership. However, the remaining 9 batsmen could only add 100 more. The Green started well with opening bowler Richard Nunn taking wickets and catches. However, with Chappel’s best batsmen looking to stay in a great spell from Jonathan Purser & Jens Wair saw us rattle through the lower order. Bevin Guthrie taking the final wicket. The BBQ ended the day and the 1’s now play Witham on Sunday at the Green.
